BioMonWeek 2026 - the European Conference for Biodiversity Monitoring

We are pleased to share some photos from the BioMonWeek2026 - the European Conference for Biodiversity Monitoring, held in Montpellier, France, from 4 to 8 May 2026.

Our project lead, Lina Mtwana Nordlund (Uppsala University), who attended the event, gave a presentation on OCEANIS. This operational framework is being developed and tested to become our main project output.

There was also a successful workshop co-chaired by Lina Mtwana Nordlund, Guillaume Body, and Lisa Benedetti dedicated to Understanding EBVs and EOVs.

This interactive session introduced Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs) and Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) as key frameworks for monitoring ocean and biodiversity change. They briefly presented what EOVs and EBVs are, how they are used, and why they matter for observation, assessment, and decision-making. The session then explored where these frameworks potentially overlap, how they complement and reinforce each other, and how closer alignment can strengthen biodiversity monitoring across marine systems. The session concluded with facilitated discussions to exchange perspectives, experiences, and ideas for improved integration.
