New paper on GOOS Essential Ocean Variables

We are delighted to share that the impactful and long-awaited paper "GOOS Essential Ocean Variables: the backbone of a sustained and evolving global ocean observing system" has been published!

The enhancement of BioEco Essential Ocean Variables usage and implementation is one of the main objectives of the BioEcoOcean project. We are pleased to see the results of this collaborative international effort, coordinated by the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), which marks a significant milestone for our ocean observing community.

We want to thank the lead authors, Belén Martín Míguez and Emma Heslop, for their efforts to make this publication happen, and congratulate all the co-authors for their contributions. In particular, we want to acknowledge co-authors who are directly involved in our project: Emma Heslop, Lisandro Benedetti-Cecchi, Ana Lara-Lopez, Lina Mtwana Nordlund, Artur Palacz, and our External Expert Advisory Board: Gabrielle Canonico, Frank Muller-Karger.

We also acknowledge our sister projects: BioGeoSea & ObsSea4Clim for their contributions to EOVs enhancement.
